What advice would you give to others about working in a group?
Working in a group is an important thing to learn to do but it is also a very hard thing to achieve. The most important thing to help a group function well is trust. You have to trust that everyone in the group will hold up their end of the work. To make this situation easier before you all go into working you should get together and decide what you all want to achieve and what each person should do. Another very important part about being in a group is not allowing someone in the group fall behind. Remind them that they need to do their work, maybe even help them. One problem though is that no matter how hard you try one person will always get at least a little more work than the others. In order to take a little work off them, you need to help that person if they ask for assistance, your project isn't done when you finish your part, but when everyone has completed their work. Make sure that once you're finished you help others finish their part, edit their work, help find sources, just do anything that can help you group members finish their part.
What did you enjoy most about the interview process of the Oral History Project?
The interview was easily the most fun and interesting part about the Oral History Project. It was interesting to learn about how to conduct and set up interviews. The actual interview was a very unique and new experience. The goal of an interview is to get information from someone without making it seem like they are getting interrogated. I was intrigued to see how the interviewer made it seem like a simple conversation between two people. The best part of the interview though was to hear in person what someone was able to do and learn all of the specifics about what they did. I interviewed Ms. Joyce and I already knew that they were helped by Episcopal but I was unaware that so many schools donated money to help, I learned a lot from just the 45 minutes she talked to us. We got a lot of valuable information and to know that I was apart of getting information that is valuable to people was the most enjoyable thing about the Oral History Project.
